We’ve Got CLASS – Our Building Is Buzzing with Excitement

The First Street Community Center in Mount Vernon, Iowa was once a building overflowing with students coming and going to class. We are bringing that excitement and energy back in 2016!

Here’s a short list of classes you can get involved in:

NOTE: Hillary Clinton will not be at this event. However, you are encouraged to come and learn what the women of the Senate think about Hillary Clinton. Come listen to them and ask them your questions.

This Friday, January 15th from 12:15-1:30pm. This event is held in the Library at the First Street Community Center in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota)
Claire McCaskill (Missouri)

The Senators are touring Iowa to share with Iowans what they know about Hillary that has led to their support of her. They will be highlighting issues specific to Iowa and families.

This Saturday – Marionette Puppet Show – Don Quixote – by the Edgar Wibble Puppet Theatre

The First Street Community Center in Mount Vernon, Iowa is pleased to announce a wonderfully talented theatre troop performing with some “strings attached” this Saturday.

There will be two performances: January 16th @ 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Tickets are: $4.00.

This rendition of “The ingenious gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha” is loosely based on the classic novel from 1605. It begins with the hand puppet short “Once Upon a Time Machine” and brings to life an old world form of entertainment for a new age audience.

There’s truly something for everyone here, with virtuoso flamenco guitar music, stringed puppets over 30” tall, and a 30 foot wide stage where puppets and performers blend and blur fantasy and reality.

The shows main theme is just plain fun, but it also touches on the magic of literature and how “Too much sanity may be madness. And maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.”

The Mount Vernon Area Arts Council presents ‘Music on Saturday’s’ at the First Street Community Center in Mount Vernon, Iowa. All performances are FREE and open to the public. The first one will be Saturday, January 9th. All of the performances will be from 11 – 1 pm.
