“A Wrestling Life,” Talk and and Book Signing by Dan Gable

Wrestling legend Dan Gable will talk about the sport and his life, followed by a book-signing. His latest book, “A Wrestling Life: The Inspiring Stories of Dan Gable,” will be available for purchase.

Gable is a retired Olympic wrestler and coach best known for his tenure as head coach at the University of Iowa where he won 15 NCAA team titles between 1976-1997.

Coach Jim Van Scoyoc meet & greet

Legendary Norway High School baseball coach Jim Van Scoyoc will be on site to greet people as they visit the exhibit.

Van Scoyoc, who was featured in the movie “The Final Season” later served as a pitching coach for the minor leagues in the Detroit Tigers organization and at Kirkwood Community College.

How Iowa Met Baseball – The Myths, The History, The Players

Historian John Liepa will explore the myths regarding the “invention” of baseball, the origins and evolution of the early game in the United States; how the Civil War played a role in accelerating the spread of the game; the very first mention of the game’s coming to Iowa in 1858, and how it caught on.

Guests will have the opportunity to view Liepa’s extensive collection of memorabilia and cards before and after the presentation.
