Adult Concert with Dan Bern – Americana / Rock / Folk – Former Mount Vernon Native

Dan Bern is playing in his hometown for the first time! His Facebook profile states: “If you must put me in a box, make sure it’s a big box…” You could try to label that big box as “Americana / Roots / Rock / Folk”, but, that would be missing quite a lot still. Bern has toured the US, Canada and Europe since the mid-’90s, and has recorded some two dozen studio albums. He also wrote songs for films such as “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” and “Get Him to The Greek.” He is currently writing songs for a new Amazon cartoon, “The Stinky and DIrty Show!”
Further in his Facebook profile he states: “Dan Bern is best known for his prolific songwriting and electric live persona. He has released eighteen albums and built a loyal following based on prodigious touring and output of songs in all forms.”
The Washington Post says: “Dan Bern strums drop-dead gorgeous melodies like a demon with his tail on fire; and expresses his love for humankind through scabrous, literary, skeptical rhymes full of hyper articulation and the tormented self-knowledge of the really, really smart.”
NPR says: “With his acoustic guitar and a batch of witty and insightful songs, Dan Bern is rapidly becoming the voice of a new generation of folk music.”
The Uptown Theatre in the First Street Community Center is thrilled to present Dan Bern in the second of two special shows while he is on tour.
This show is on Sunday, July 26 will be a regular adult show at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15.
Tickets on sale at CarePro Pharmacy & at the door.

Two Great Concerts this Saturday!

Start your day off with music to get your blood pumping from the award-winning Eastern Iowa Brass Band. Weather permitting, they will be playing outside on the front lawn of the First Street Community Center of Mount Vernon, Iowa.
The Eastern Iowa Brass Band performs at 11am, Saturday the 6th of June.
Then we take the show indoors to the Uptown Theatre’s comfortable seats, inside of the First Street Community Center, for the cool jazz sounds of the Eddie Piccard Jazz Quartet.
The Eddie Piccard Jazz Quartet performs at 2pm, Saturday the 6th of June.
The Quartet features Eddie on piano and vocals, Jon Wilson on drums, Scott Barnum on bass, and Rich Martin on vibes. The exact program varies, but the band delights in playing jazz standards and tunes popularized by great bands, combos, and singers in the jazz tradition.
From the Band:
“The Eddie Piccard Jazz Quartet has always found playing in Mount Vernon – both at the Chocolate Stroll and in evening concerts – to be musically rewarding and full of fun. We are looking forward to June 6th and hope to see a lot of friends there.”
