When Richard Hannay’s guest turns up dead, all evidence points to him. To clear his name and figure out the mystery of the 39 steps, Hannay bursts into a thrilling adventure.

Four actors play 33 parts in this hilarious and fast-paced show.

The 39 Steps was originally a 1935 British thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Very loosely based on the 1915 adventure novel The Thirty-Nine Steps by John Buchan, the film is about Richard Hannay, who becomes caught up in preventing an organization of spies called The 39 Steps from stealing British military secrets. After being mistakenly accused of the murder of a counter-espionage agent, Hannay goes on the run to Scotland with an attractive woman in the hopes of stopping the spy ring and clearing his name.  – Source: Wikipedia

The First Street Community Center’s Uptown Theatre is proud to host award-winning singer/songwriters Chad Elliott & Claudia Nygaard performing as part of the LilFest 2016 Spring Music Series in Mount Vernon, Iowa.  This performance will take place April 2nd from 8pm – 10pm.

Photo of Claudia NygaardA California native living in Nashville, Tennessee, Claudia Nygaard is the owner of a gorgeous, powerful voice and performs with a sweet mixture of engaging candidness and unparalleled musicianship.

Claudia has performed at over 150 fairs and festivals in 47 states and across Europe, and was chosen one of the Emerging Artists at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in New York.

Photo of Chad ElliottChad Elliott, of Coon Rapids, Iowa, joins Claudia in a new pairing. He has recently recorded “Wreck and Ruin” in Nashville with platinum record producer Ken Coomer, and drummer of Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, and Steve Earle’s band.

His Americana song-style and extraordinary voice puts him on the road for 200 performances a year; often with greats like Odetta, Tom Paxton, Loudon Wainwright III, R.L. Burnside, Greg Brown, Bo Ramsey.

BOTH PERFORMERS are back in Mount Vernon by popular demand after previous performances here. Their virtuosity, talent and stage presence will take your breath away, and then their song ideas, humility and personality will bring you back to your senses.  It doesn’t get much better than this.

The LilFest Series at Uptown Theatre in the First Street Community Center. This series brings world quality performances to an intimate concert setting. Claudia and Chad follow in the footsteps of performers like James Lee Stanley, Nathan Bell, Barefoot Wonder, Guy Mendilow, and Radoslav Lorković.

The LilFest 2016 Spring Music Series artists include: The Sweet Potatoes, Eric Taylor and Phil Heywood.

Suggested contribution is $15.00.  Subscription Sponsorships for the series $80 each ensures center-front section seating if received by April 1.

Tonight – Classic Country Music by Johnny K and the Playboys – A Ray Price Tribute

The First Street Community Center’s Uptown Theatre will have some good old Classic Country Music played live by Johnny K and the Playboys with their Ray Price Tribute Show.

The performance is March 26th (tonight) from 7pm – 9pm.

Admission is only $5.

You are welcome to bring your own pop, wine, or beer, but you must drink it in a $5 theater cup which are available for sale at the concert.

The First Street Community Center’s Uptown Theatre is proud to announce The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Theater’s production of “Animal Facts”

Do you ever wonder what wolves are really howling about?  Why geese honk?  How elephants communicate?

Animal Facts - MouseMVLCT’s spring show Animal Facts is for everyone who thinks we have plenty to learn from the other species who share our planet.  It is also a collaboration of at least forty writers, actors, directors, artists, and musicians, age 10 – 60, so you probably know someone who is involved.

Eight short pieces about different animals and their behavior will be punctuated with live music, live art, and interesting facts about these fascinating creatures.  Come alone or bring your family – this show is appropriate for young, old and any age in between.

Find out what all the howling is about! MVLCT is now accepting ticket reservations for Animal Facts. No businesses will be selling tickets in advance.  Reservations are strongly encouraged.

To Reserve Your Tickets:  call 319-535-2030 and leave a voice message stating your name, the date of the show you want to attend, and the number of tickets you want to reserve.

Shows are in the Uptown Theatre in the First Street Community Center in Mt. Vernon.  All tickets are $10 and the box office opens one hour before the show.

Please arrive early to claim and pay for your reserved tickets.  We will also be selling unreserved tickets at the door.
